“Kido” in Japanese means “the path of energy”. Each person’s path of energy is unique and unrepeatable. Some live with the current, giving themselves to the wind of fate; some constantly struggle, searching for the right way; and some accept everything and make a choice in their favour.
Walking one’s own path without entering into conflict with either the inner or the outer world; being able to speak and listen; enjoying communication; being liked by others without appeasing them; achieving one’s goals; making the most of what nature has given us and what we have acquired on our life path — this is the natural striving of everyone who comes to our center, and our task is to support, help, and uncover it based on deep knowledge and professional experience.
The idea of founding the center was conceived long ago. It arose from medical practice when patients shared not only their physical condition but also their psychological state. It became clear that the mental and the physical in a person are inseparable and interconnected. By aligning a person’s psychological state, we can contribute to their physical recovery.
Alongside this factor, another one matured — at the dawn of psychology’s development in Kazakhstan many small private clinics offering psychological help appeared, but they lacked a strong professional base. The Kido Family-Psychological Center has been operating since March 2006. Since April 2008 we have been a regional representative of the Moscow Institute of Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology (Rector — Doctor of Medical Sciences E. G. Gordeeva).
During this time our center’s specialists have been conducting individual consultations, trainings, and seminars. Since February 2007 a psychotherapeutic women’s group has existed. Trainings are held on children’s rhetoric, art therapy, preschool children’s programs. Training seminars for psychology students and graduates, psychological trainings for company leaders, team-building and stress-management trainings, trainings for married couples are conducted.
From October 2007 to May 2008 the center participated in the “Step to Success” project as an intellectual sponsor. The aim of the project was to improve the educational-upbringing process in orphanages. During this period about 200 children from Almaty City Children’s Home No. 2 and Regional Children’s Home No. 1 were tested. Team-building, communication trainings, identity-forming trainings, conflict-work were carried out.
As a result, orphanage educators received comprehensive recommendations for each ward.
2008 was declared the “Year of Education”. At the Kido Center, under the guidance of V. I. Esaulov (Moscow Institute of Psychotherapy and Clinical Psychology) training seminars on psychosomatics were organised.
As a result, two employees of the center (medical psychologists in Almaty) received state-standard certificates, enabling them to provide psychotherapeutic support in oncology, depressions, eating addictions, allergies (asthma, rhinitis, neurodermatitis, etc.).
Today our center provides consultative psychological assistance, holds club meetings, seminars, trainings for children and adults, and also offers a perfect opportunity for future professionals — psychologists and psychotherapists — to increase their professional level.
Therapy of body and soul is a subtle understanding of both deeply personal and external, social phenomena. Therefore, in our daily practice — whether consultations, trainings or development groups — we strive to form correct understandings of the goals of our activity, thereby contributing to the development of a healthy society by forming psychological culture.
By making our contribution we fulfill a dual mission. First, as professional psychologists and psychotherapists in our daily practice we are called to heal the soul and body. Second, relying on the results of this practice, we strive to bring our professional views and ideas into a broader social context. This constitutes the educational mission of our center.
The activity of the center — qualified psychological assistance — is based on a single principle — the principle of professionalism, the foundation of which is the absolute observance of professional ethics.
A psychologist must provide only competent assistance and understand the limits of his own competence. In addition to a high level of education, a professional must have a flexible, comprehensive analytical mind — a subtle ability to understand and manage the processes that occur in his own psyche, because the mastery of the psychologist lies primarily in his ability to understand himself.
A qualified psychologist must have his own method, i.e. a certain adherence to particular psychological theories and psychotherapeutic treatment techniques. At the same time the professional must put priorities in his work completely adequately: the patient comes first, the method comes second.
The ability to empathise with the patient is another important quality that determines professional suitability. This quality is the basis of deep understanding of the patient’s problems. A psychologist or psychotherapist who wants to achieve success in treating patients must strive to help. Not just “consult” or “analyse”, but indeed help.
Relationships between a psychologist and a patient are based on trust and agreement. During the initial consultation the specialist must inform the patient about the specifics of psychological help. The psychologist must tactfully reach agreement with the patient regarding appointment time, fees and other rules and commitments.
The client’s confidentiality is important and deserves respect. The confidentiality of information revealed by the patient in interaction with the psychologist is a core right of the patient and an inseparable part of effective psychological practice.
Our center is located in the very heart of the city, in a separate 4-storey building. The basement is equipped with a sports hall for yoga and dance. Our own parking area and CCTV allow your car to be kept under reliable guard.
